Prevention: n. Prevention is a proactive process which
empowers individuals and systems to meet the challenges of
life events and transitions by creating and reinforcing
conditions that promote healthy behaviors and life styles.
So what is prevention?!?! Information, activities, programs,
and laws that all help make up part of a large tool kit. When
all the tools are used, they all help build a community where
we can keep our teens and families safe.
Prevention is education that not only teaches youth about the
dangers of drugs, but helps kids learn how to make the right
choices.
Prevention is parents who listen to their children or teens
and talk about risks of drug use.
Prevention is families supporting other families and
discussing topics like curfews, internet safety, and teen
behavior.
Prevention happens when a group of people get together to talk
about ways to prevent teens from driving under the influence.
Prevention is a police force which enforces the underage
drinking law and takes proactive steps to prevent crimes like
underage drinking or drug use from happening in the first
place.
Prevention is a parent who takes the time to call another
parent whose son or daughter is having a party – just to make
sure a parent will be home.
